Photography Exhibition: Southern Exposure

La Slavery March Street Portrait

These images have been selected to be part of the Southern Exposure Green Book 2018 Juried Exhibition.

Green Book explores the uncompromising visual language of communities of color and the structural underpinnings that increasingly restrict their movement through areas with rapidly growing white populations. Artists introduce a metaphorical guide to freedom from heteronormative and eurocentric standards for being in public space.

Green Book is named for the Jim Crow era guidebook detailing routes of safe passage for African-American travelers.

The exhibition addresses similar frictions of being a racialized body amid dwindling community. The exhibition runs July 13th – August 18th 2018. The opening reception is Friday July 13th from 7-9 PM. If anyone is in the Bay Area please stop by.
